LCFF 2014 Movie

Sports Awards Ceremony, Screening & After-party

The excitement begins with Red Carpet arrivals, national press and numerous celebrities from our Sports Jury and industry Panels and films. Our night will then commence with the Sports Awards Ceremony, which will award the best in sports features, documentaries and shorts, as well as a student winner in our high school selection. We’ll also pay special tribute to Ron Shelton, who was selected as our ‘Ambassador of Sport.’ His many films like Bull Durham, Tin Cup and White Men Can’t Jump are forever ingrained in the psyche of everyone who loves sports. This will be followed by our feature film, Teacher of the Year, starring Matt Letscher, Jamie Kaler, Keenan-Michael Key and the Sklar brothers. Director Jason Strause, lead actor Matt Letscher and actor Jamie Kaler will offer comments before the screening. Toast the night’s successes at our starry night after-party at Omni’s Edge Pool and Promenade. Guests will enjoy Omni chef selections at various stations, an incredible dessert display and, of course, champagne! Enjoy live music, mingle with stars and cap off your cinematic weekend with La Costa’s signature drink. There’s much to celebrate at the La Costa Film Festival.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR: Surrounded by the eccentric faculty of Truman High School, Mitch Carter wins the California Teacher of the Year award and immediately receives a tempting offer that may force him to leave his job.

Truman High School’s faculty is filled with eccentric personalities: phony, ladder-climbing principal Ron Douche, hyper-competitive robotics teacher Stephen Queeg, twin incompetent guidance counselors Clive & Lowell Hammer, and surly assistant principal Marv Collins. One of Truman’s own, English Department Chair Mitch Carter, wins the California Teacher of the Year award, but the celebration is cut short when a student accuses Mitch’s best friend, math teacher Brian Collins, of sexual harassment. Meanwhile, the attention brought on by Mitch’s victory leads to a lucrative and tempting job offer that may force him to leave his job.
