Ever wonder what it takes to pitch a movie to a producer? Or how to create a sports narrative? What about the importance of female roles in films? Find all of these answers at the festivals 3 unique interactive panels hosted at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. The best part? They are all FREE to attend!

Game Changer: Why Diversity Matters In Business and Film, highlights the importance of female roles, on and off-screen. The panel will be moderated by Mary Blair-Loy, Director for the Research on Gender and Associate Professor at UC San Diego. The panelists include, Madeline Di Nonno, CEO of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, Tamar Elkeles, Chief of Learning at Qualcomm, Lisa Lapan, Co-founder of Something Kreative, Robin Hauser Reynolds, Director of The Documentary Code: Debugging the Gender Gap, and Peter Silvester, Executive Vice President of Thermo Fisher Scientific, will explore why productivity, efficiency, and return on investment improve when women are part of the team. Geena Davis says, “Kids need to see entertainment where females are valued as much as males.”

Storytelling Through Sports: Why it Works will be moderated by Geoff Clark, Co-owner of Something Kreative, a production, sales, and distribution company. The panelists include Philip Waller (also the director of one of our world premiere films, 7 Miles of Paradise), Executive Producer and Director, Jonathan ‘JJ’ James, Pro Surfer, Sunny Garcia, filmmaker and surfer, Nathan Apffel, and Pro Surfer and founder of the annual Mavericks Surf Contest, Jeff Clark.

The Reel Pitch: a live filmmaker competition panel with one chance to fulfill their dreams, channels the popular hit-show, Shark Tank. Moderated by Mike Tollin, Co-Chairman, Mandalay Sports, Producer and spouse of actress Jessica Alba, Cash Warren, plus a mystery Hollywood studio executive. If you love the show as much as we do, you won’t want to miss The Reel Pitch. This year, we’ve partnered with Mandalay Sports Media to showcase the top ten storytellers chosen from an initial pool of applicants. How does it work? The contestants will be placed in a room with seasoned producers and executives hungry for new material. Each of them will pitch their film idea to The Reel Pitch judges for a chance to refine the pitch under their expertise, and ultimately, deliver that pitch to one of Mandalay Sports Media’s studio partners for an opportunity to make a sale.

We are thrilled to have these three panels as a part of our 2015 festival offerings, and we hope to see you there! This is a free event, but you must register online here.
