This year, we are pleased to present the Legacy Award to stage and screen veteran actor John C. McGinley, for his contributions to the film industry and special needs community, at our annual Honors Awards and Gala event held at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa on Saturday, September 12th.

A graduate from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts MFA program, John C. McGinley has gone on to appear in many popular television shows and over sixty films such as Platoon, Wall Street, Point Break, and Office Space. He is perhaps best known for his role as Dr. Perry Cox on NBC’s Emmy-nominated hit television comedy-drama series, Scrubs. Additionally, McGinley has provided voice work and narration for several animated series, and a documentary on the Detroit Red Wings’ 2008 Stanley Cup Championship.

McGinley is a compassionate man who strives to make a difference both within his community and throughout the world, as is evidenced by his work on and off screen. As a parent to a teenage son with Down syndrome, McGinley is a proud advocate of the special needs community. He serves on the board for The Global Down Syndrome Foundation and for the past seven years has been a Global Ambassador for the Special Olympics. He is also the Chief Architect (and most fanatical spokesmen!) of the “Spread the Word to End the Word” campaign, with the Special Olympics.

John C. McGinley’s response to his reception of the La Costa Film Festival’s Legacy Award:

“Of course, I am deeply honored that The La Costa Film Festival has selected me to receive the 2015 Legacy Award. Like the Festival itself, my career has benefited from good fortune and required a lot of support from friends and family. But here we are, ready to have fun and enjoy some of America’s greatest films nobody knows about – yet!”
