Worthy is a fresh millennial twist on a coming-of-age story of an eccentric aspiring actress struggling to realize her dreams in Hollywood. The film stars Amberlee Colson as Jules Jenson, a quirky girl that may stumble again and again, but perseveres to follow her dream at all costs. Here are five reasons why you will love Worthy!
1. IT IS A HUMOROUS NEW-AGE TWIST ON THE RATHER TRADITIONAL COMING-OF-AGE STORY.
Jules is an aspiring actress stuck in the trenches squashed by the weight of an invisible and domineering thumb of hopeless and embarrassing failed auditions. In spite of all her many failures, she keeps trying. This story is one of perseverance, and persevere she does.
2. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BORN AMBERLEE COLSON KILLS IT AS THE LEAD.
Have we mentioned she’s charming and hilarious? Colson is about as quirky a personality as the main character she wrote for Worthy (oh yeah, she also wrote this film! How cool?). Colson found inspiration for Worthy in her own one-woman shows in Los Angeles where she spent a lot of time developing her ideas as well as her character. As you travel alongside Jules through her many wardrobe changes and wardrobe malfunctions, her bursts of nervous excitement, and her devastating emotional tale spins, you’ll surely fall in love with the character in more ways than one.
3. WHO DOESN’T LOVE A LITTLE ROMANCE?
And by a “little”, we mean a little. Colson gives you just enough to get your blood moving, but not so much that the film drowns in prototypical rom-com goo.
4. MARIANNA PALKA IS THE DIRECTOR. ENOUGH SAID.
Palka is an extraordinary talent in the director’s seat and she ingeniously drapes a thin vail drama over Worthy that will leave any audience bleeding for Jules and her supporting actors and actresses. Her work has been shown at film festivals across the globe, including the Dramatic Competition at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and her documentary short film “The Lion’s Mouth Opens” premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and was short-listed for the 2015 Academy Awards.
5. FAMILY FIRST.
Worthy ends on a high note worthy of applause. You’ll have to make your way to the Cinepolis Luxury Theatre La Costa this September 11th at 7:30pm to see what we mean!
